“Children’s developmental needs should lead policy”. EYE (Early Years Educator) magazine

There is a link between immature physical skills and educational performance

A growing body of research links immature physical skills to poorer performance on learning outcomes.  Recent findings indicate that children’s physical skills at the time of school entry have declined over the last 9 years.  Despite this, the focus of government funding and educational policy still tends to be on the assessment of outcomes rather than the developmental processes needed to support all aspects of learning.

This article reviews some of the research including why so many children and families are at risk of becoming “lost in the system”.
